The center’s career and
vocational services offers opportunities for individual
growth and development, confidence building, and economic
and personal independence through education and training.
Career and vocational services can also help a person
prepare for, and retain with support if necessary, a
job in the competitive workplace. Today, thousands of
blind individuals are self-sufficient because they are
actively employed in a variety of fields such as: lawyers,
secretary, computer analyst, stock clerk, engineer, teacher,
food service worker, customer service representative,
personnel manager. Success in any job is primarily due
to the preparation and attitudes the individual brings
to the job. The career and vocational services help individuals
help themselves be successful.
Career Strategies/Job Development
This service offers an individual the opportunity
to develop person-centered vocational goals and
objectives through an assessment process. This process
may include the opportunity to visit a variety of
employment sites to determine abilities and interests
within a particular occupation (i.e. community based
assessment and situational assessment).
Relationships are developed with
businesses for learning
experience and possible placement.
Career Consulting
This
service offers assistance with skills training in
areas such as: resume writing, completing a job
application, and interviewing skills.
Work Adjustment
This
service assists a person in becoming job ready in
order to transition to other rehabilitation services
or work. This service assists a person determine their
own daily
living needs in areas such as: adjustment to vision
disability, and developing positive work habits.
Job Placement/Employment Support
Services
Job search assistance is offered
to individuals seeking
competitive employment in the community. Employment
support services can provide: worksite evaluations in
accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act
(ADA); recommend training and equipment for job
accommodations; assessment of work sites; and follow
up employment and retention services.
The Seeing
Hand is an approved Social Security Administration Employment
Network
for the “Ticket-To-Work”
program.
Agency Employment Opportunities
The Seeing Hand Association offers training and employment
opportunities within the Center based on job availability.
Training and employment opportunities include contract
work and manufacture of goods and products (e.g. mops,
chair caning, hand woven rugs, and crafts). |
